St Philip’s Marsh

St Philip’s Marsh is a major opportunity to transform a significant part of Bristol to create a series of sustainable, mixed-use neighbourhoods that are integrated with their surrounding communities.

Proposals for St Philip’s Marsh are less detailed, with development likely over a longer period of time. We have just begun a masterplanning exercise that will explore what development could happen in the area, and what kind of community facilities and infrastructure would be needed. This planning will be shaped by community engagement.

Our ambition is to create a genuinely mixed-use neighbourhood, with a range of new homes, including affordable housing, alongside a variety of thriving businesses, as well as the community infrastructure that supports wellbeing and meets the future needs of a growing city.

The area is currently characterised by industrial land and major infrastructure and is occupied by a range of businesses. Our vision is to create new employment and business spaces that increase and diversify the jobs in the area, while supporting existing businesses and employers.

There are opportunities here to create a low-carbon, climate adapted place to live, work and spend time where active travel, green infrastructure, and biodiversity are at the heart of the development.

The area has some significant challenges before major redevelopment can take place, including flood risk, a lack of public transport and fragmented land ownership that makes comprehensive regeneration more difficult. The BTQ team is working to resolve these challenges, alongside the BTQ partners, landowners, and other key stakeholders.
