Inclusive and Sustainable Growth

A mission based approach

Our Inclusive and Sustainable Growth Strategy has been developed to help us realise the economic potential of Temple Quarter in a way which maximises long term benefits for local people and the environment.

The strategy defines the types of places, jobs, opportunities, and experiences that we want to create at BTQ, and how these will help to create prosperity, tackle inequality in communities across Bristol, and support the transition of the city and region to net zero.

The Inclusive and Sustainable Growth Strategy will be published in early 2025.

We have identified three long term missions to help guide what we do and to help us know if we are succeeding:

People are happy and well

Temple Quarter is a place where all residents are able to access and enjoy a good quality of life and a place which, through sustained investment and opportunity creation, helps to improve lived experience and reduce inequality across Bristol’s neighbourhoods.

A vibrant and successful economy

Temple Quarter plays a central role in Bristol and the West of England’s success through growth in the size and productivity of the economy. The future economy will reflect the city’s reputation for creativity and enterprise and play a leading role in driving forward the region’s aspirations to be an innovation powerhouse. It will build upon the unique platform provided by the established business community in the area, enabling existing businesses to stay and thrive where possible.

Inclusive and environmentally resilient places

Development at Temple Quarter leads the way in supporting Bristol’s net zero transition and enables daily life which genuinely represents Bristol’s demographic and cultural diversity.

How we are delivering

Our Inclusive and Sustainable Growth Team is responsible for helping us work towards these missions, working closely with partners across the city and the region.

Our team is focused on:

  • Embedding community involvement and participation throughout the delivery programme, empowering communities to get involved and play a meaningful role in the long-term evolution of the area.
  • Convening partners around a shared set of aspirations, bringing conversations into one place and maximising the benefit of collective intent and energy. Establishing a shared approach to social value delivery which helps us work towards our missions is an important part of this.

BTQ Charter

The Charter will provide practical guidance to everyone working in Temple Quarter on how to adopt a coordinated and collective approach to inclusive growth, so that we can maximise the impact of investment. We expect to launch this in spring 2025.

BTQ Hub

The Hub will be a space in Temple Quarter that provides a focal point for the regeneration programme, and becomes a space for community groups and the general public to come together. Longer-term, we want the hub to be a place where the BTQ team and partners can deliver a range of engagement and skills and employment activities. We expect to launch this in spring 2025.

BTQ Community Fund

The Community Fund will be a grant funding programme that supports grass roots community activities and initiatives. We expect to launch this in summer 2025.
